  Levico Terme
HISTORY:

Characterized from the termal spas with the arsenic ferruginous water, the town of Levico Terme lays in the middle of an enchanting landscape in the Alps.
The history of this country has seen several populations, in the diverse historic periods many different peoples dominated and have been ruled. From the Longobard to the princes-bishops, to the Austro-Ungaric Empire. The town of Levico Terme is always been a strategic point because of his location, near the see and on the way that goes through Valsugana and that links the more important towns of this zone.

Levico Terme keeps nowadays the old sommer residence of the princess Sissi with the spectacular park and his ancient trees.
In the Plateu of Lavarone is possible to visit several ruins of the First World War, like Luserna Fort and Lavarone Fort and the Museums, that are dedicated to the war.

SURROUNDINGS:

Levico Terme is a little town located in the province o Trento in the region of Trentino Alto Adige and has a population of about 7.000.

Levico Terme is located at 520 meters on the sea level, 22 km from Trento and about 110 km from Padua, on banks of Levico Lake.

The city id dominated by the mountains of the Lagorai range on the north , with Monte Fronte (1571 m) and Monte Panarotta (2002 m), and the zone of the Plateaus (Vezzena, LAvarone, Luserna, Folgaria) on the south, where Cima Vezzena (1908 m) is located. On the west the Vigolana range can be seen past the lakes of Levico and Caldonazzo, and in the east the valley opens considerably, and the zone of Borgo Valsugana can be seen.

The natural environment is spectacular and offers occasions of contact with an uncontaminated nature, the mountain promenade and the cycle tracks provide many ideas for sportlers and keens on trekking and bycicle. Many structures give possibility for several kind of sports (tennis, horse-riding, sail, canoe, clinbing wall, ...).
Keens on relax may find an answer to their requests, many attention is given to this important aspect of life, that of the quiet and regeneration.


WALKS AND TREKKING:

Levico Lake: Lenght: 6000m. Duration: 2,30 hourse. Lake Levico is situated close to the thermal centre Levico Terme, the picturesque lake Levico is surrounded by dense forests, those who seek relaxation and those who like water sports will find an answer in lake Levico (sailing, surfing and swimming). Along its north bank, there is the pleasant fishermen's path (strada dei pescatori) and it is also suitable for walks. During the walk you'll see also a biotope with its different water birds nad you can enjoy swimming on the beach of the lido.

In the town
: in the centre of the town you'll find the Spas Park, where is also situated the office for touristic informations. Along the main way one may observe the liberty-style buildings, you can admire the nineteenth century Forte delle Benne. In the center of the Spas Park one can find the Info Point for touristic informations.

San Biagio Church: Lenght: 3000m. Duration: 1,30 hours. From the Tourist Board, you walk along the Roma Street and San Biagio Street till a capital with Madonna. You go on left, after 50 m you find a little path going toeards the hill, on your right. Wonderful view on the lake.

Castel Selva: Lenght: 4500 m. Duration: 2 hours. You keace from the Salus Garden going up along the Fosse Street and turning then right along the Roma Street. You go along the northern part of the Park of the Spa Resort, you go along the Silva Domini till to the Salita al Castello. Beautiful view on the village of Selva. You go up toward the Castle, you turn left along the ancient ditch in pebbles, which leads to the rest of the Castle Selva (m. 613). Leaving the Castle you gi on along the path in the woods, and at the crossroads you turn right going down till Pontara Street. Fron here you reach the centre of Selva (m. 493). You go back to Levico along Via per Selva and then De Gasparri Street.

Vetriolo and the ferruginous water: Lenght: 1000 m. Duration: 0,50 hours. From the little square of Vetriolo, you go up till the little church and after three curves you go in front of the Roma Hotel and then till to the woods until the Cave of Vetriolo (m. 1490) one of the two caves where the mineral arsenical-ferruginous water spring. You go back along the same path or along the provincial street.

Colle delle Benne: Lenght 3000 m. Duration: 2 hours. From the Salus Gardens, you go up along Roma Street, and you turn left, in San Biagio Street and then right. You go up on an unpaved little way, passing by the former Austrian pipeline. You go on and go up right, till the Colle delle Benne (m. 653) where you can admire the rests of the omonimous fort, built by Austrians in 1890 and belogned to a series of fortifications and trenches built in the area. You come back along the same path.

The Vezzena Plateau: The Vezzena Plateau, in front of Levico, deserves a visit. It is the largest plateau of Trentino, with sweet hills, the ideal reign of summer trekking lovers, among meadows, woods and malgas. The Vezzena Plateau can bu easily reached from Calceranica, Bosentino and Vattaro, or leaving from Caldonazzo and driving on a military road dating back to the First World War. the "Kaiserjaegerweg" or "Menadora". This road, which goes up with many curves and offers a wonderful niew on Valsugana and on the Caldonazzo and Levico Lakes, is in some points very narrow and steep, being built apeak on the rocks. The plateau is made of many meadow and woods full of malgas and slowly degrading towards the Asiago Plateau.

The Caldonazzo Lake: It is the largest completely belonging to Trentino, being 4.735 m. long, 1.870 m. large and with a mean depth of 27 m. The Lake shores are full of free beaches, suitable for children, with lakeside resorts and four nautical clubs wich organize boat races and competitions at national and international level. It is possible to use boats with engines with power up to 4 HP.

Borgo Valsugana: It is urban landscape of Trentino. The town can be looked upon from Castel Telvana and it is crossed by the Brenta River. Sightseeing: The Augustum lane with its shops and baroque gateways, St. Anne, St. Rocco, St. Francisco churches, the Pieve Church and the St. Damien's monastery, the Telvana Castle (private), the Venetian Bridge on the Brenta river, the Ceschi Palace, the Degasperi room, the permanent exhibition of the First World War, the klien space with its numerous exhibitions, the Tognolli forge - the Museum of the Local Traditions and Costumes of the Trentino People, the Onea Sanctuary and the Sella Valley with its ArteNatura path. The political and administrative head town of Valsugana and it offers the most interesting river-side.

Castello Tesino and its plateau: it was inhabitated since the ancient times and crossed by one of the most important Roman Roads, the Claudio Augusta way, Castello Tesino is the largest town of the plateau. Thanks to the landscape, the folklore, the renowned ski resort and the quiet life rhythm it is a beloved touristy center. The town owns the largest wood area of Trentino and it is the ideal starting point of walks and trekking tours. Sightseeing: the fifteenth century Sant'Ippolito little church with its precious frescoes series, the Castello Tesino cave, the Roman bridge, the retic digging areas, the Museum of the Wood, the Park La Cascatella, the Brocon Pass with the famous "Flower path", the numerous Malgas scattered around the meadow.

Pergine Valsugana: it is an active town some kilometers away from Trento, close to the blue waters of the Caldonazzo lake and dominated by the Castle hill. As for the summer holidays it offers the beaches af San Cristoforo, green or with sand, where there are many sport activities. Golfing, two nautical resorts, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and dragen boat (ancient Chinese boat now used for sport activities). Campsites, hotels and restaurants offer a friendly atmosphere. On the hill top, very close to the water, there is a jewel-like church of the thirteenth century wich gives the name to the place. The historical center is a picturesque route of art, among the houses of Via Maier in Renaissance style, among the patrician palaces and the ancient and powerful castle on the hill, a gothic palace of the fifteenth cetury. On the outer part of Pergine there is the new sport resort, at the basis of the hills, with the area of the biotopes, the Pudro lake followed by the Madrano and Canzolino lakes on the upper parts.

Sentiero dei Pescatori: percorrenza 4 ore a/r. Difficoltà: semplice per persone allenate. Sul Lungolago di Levico si stacca la stradina dei Pescatori, che costeggia la sponda nord del lago. Oltrepassato il lago di prende sulla sinistra un sentiero che porta sulla riva opposta, di qui, salendo a destra si risale il Croz del Diaol per arrivare a Località Alberè, dove sorge l’abitato di Tenna. Una volta giunti sulla strada provinciale, si prosegue in mezzo a vigneti e alberi da frutto, fino a Tenna, dalla quale si gode una meravigliosa vista sul lago. Da Piazza San Rocco si prende Via Roma e poi Via San Valentino. Raggiunto il forte militare, costruito dagli austriaci a fine 1800 a scopo difensivo, si prosegue fino all’antichissima chiesetta di San Valentino (579 m.). Da qui si può tornare indietro lungo lo stesso percorso oppure proseguire fino a Caldonazzo.

Passo Vezzena e Pizzo di Levico: Durata: mezza giornata, rientro nel pomeriggio. Difficoltà: media. 
Partenza dal Piazzale dell’Albergo Vezzena (mt 1400) . Si prosegue a sinistra verso il Forte Busa Verle per arrivare poi al Forte del Pizzo (mt 1908) con vista mozzafiato sulla Valsugana. 
Dal Pizzo di Levico si può proseguire lungo il sentiero 205 di Porta Manazzo che passa sull’Ortigara e arriva in Valle di Sella – Borgo Valsugana.

Busa Granda mt. 1.500: Durata: circa 2 h e mezzo. Difficoltà: facile
Partenza dalla Loc. Compet a Vetriolo. Si prosegue su mulattiera per circa 1 ora dopodiché si raggiungono i trinceramenti austro – ungarici con postazione di artiglieria. Rientro per lo stesso percorso. 


Dalla Panarotta al Fravort. Durata: a/r ca 4 ore. 
Si parte dalla Stazione Sciistica Panarotta proseguendo sul percorso n. 308 per arrivare, con discreta salita, alla Cima Panarotta (mt. 2002). La cima fu fortemente presidiata durante la prima guerra mondiale essendo fulcro e punto di giunzione tra il settore Brenta e quello del Lagorai. Da qui si prosegue sulla dorsale passando per loc. La Bassa (mt 1834) per poi risalire, seguendo il Sentiero della Pace E5 (percorso 325) e arrivare fino al Monte Fravort mt 2347. Si rientra per lo stesso percorso. Dislivello: 400 mt circa

A Forte Lusern, nella terra dei Cimbri. Durata: 2 ore. Difficoltà: media
Dopo giorni e giorni di furiosi bombardamenti italiani il 28 maggio 1915 fu costretto ad issare la bandiera bianca della resa, ma non capitolò. E’ raggiungibile partendo dal centro di Luserna, il Lont von Cimbarn, il paese dei Cimbri.
